Alan Titley
Alan Titley: Emeritus professor of Modern Irish at University College Cork, and former Head of the Irish Department at St. Patrick’s College (DCU and NUI) for 25 years. He is the author of eight novels, three collections of stories, many poems, some plays, and has also written and presented radio and television programmes and documentaries on Irish literature and authors, including a history of the Irish language for TG4. His scholarly publications mainly deal with modern and contemporary Irish literature, particularly dealing with the novel. While most of his writing is in Irish, a collection of his English essays can be found in Nailing Theses: selected essays (Lagan Press. 2012). He has also written on Scottish Gaelic and Manx literature. His translation of Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s classic Cré na Cille as The Dirty Dust was published by Yale University Press. He writes a weekly column on current and cultural affairs for The Irish Times and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy.
