Maria Kampyli

Maria Kampyli (Μαρία Καμπύλη, born in Athens in 1977) has studied English Language and Literature at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; she is a holder of a literary translation diploma from EKEMEL (European Center for the Translation of Literature and the Human Sciences) and a PhD graduate from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. Her doctoral research focused on the work of W.B. Yeats. Maria Kampyli has recently published an essay in The Yeats Journal of Korea (DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.14354/yjk.2017.52.143 Vol. 52 (2017): 143-183) on the influence of the Ajanta Caves early Hindu-Buddhist art on the mature work of W.B. Yeats. In 2015 she compiled an exhibition on 'W.B. Yeats and the Eastern Thinkers' for South Dublin public Libraries for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the poet (https://yeats2015.com/events/list/?tribe_event_display=past&tribe_paged=3); in December 2016 she participated in the ‘Yeats and Asia’ Symposium organized by The International Yeats Society at the East Asian Studies & Research Centre, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Maria Kampyli is also the translator of two poems by W.B. Yeats into Greek published in Yeats Reborn (Schwall H. (Eds.), Leuven: Peeters, December 2015), of A.L. Kennedy’s Original Bliss into Greek (Odisseas Press, November 2001), and of two articles published in the literary magazine Diabazo (December 1999; 425-428, 2002). She currently lives in Ireland focusing on academic research, literary translation and creative writing. Presently she is focusing on two essays that are going to be published in two upcoming books on W.B. Yeats.
